Under The UK Bribery Act 2010 (“the Act”) the following constitute an offence:-
- bribing a person to induce or reward them for performing a relevant function improperly;
- requesting, accepting, or receiving a bribe as a reward for performing a relevant function improperly;
- using a bribe to influence a foreign official to gain a business advantage; and
- failure of a commercial organisation to prevent bribery
At Lane IP we ensure all of our attorneys and employees are aware of the Act and strictly adhere to its provisions.
Whilst it is normal for us to receive promotional gifts from time to time, this does not constitute a breach of the Act. If, however, such gifts are of a nature or value that they could be taken to influence business decisions, the matter is referred to the Board of Directors for consideration.
Similarly, if any of Lane IP’s attorneys or employees have a suspicion that local attorneys we work with are involved in any form of bribery or corruption, the matter is also referred to the Board of Directors for consideration.
